Endangered farm animals: The Sheep of Lefkimmi
In the south end of Corfu in the villages of lefkimmi there was a breed of farm sheep which was met only in the island of Corfu.
In the 1969 registers this sheep counted about 4000 heads. This number decreased gradually hence the import of of animals from other parts of the country in order to improve the quantity of milk farm production.
Since 1976 the breed is considered to be extinct. Today there are none but very few animals that carry the characteristics of this corfean farm animal.
In our farm we aim to collect the singled out animals and move into recreating the breed with those characteristics.
