We breed various animals in our farm, such as sheep, goats, rabbits, pigs, wild pigs, cows, horses, donkeys, cats, dogs, chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, bees, etc
All these animals offer excellent quality organic food such as milk, cheese, yoghurt, eggs, meat, which for the time being are mainly consumed in the farm by us and our visitors. The animal manure is being used as natural fertilizers for all our crops and to fertilise our land.
Wild Life
There is a wide variety of wild animals in the farm, most from local species. We never disturb our wild life and in return they offer us the required natural balance of our ecosystem. If you take a walk in the farm as well as the surrounding area, you will be surprised with the different animals you may find such as frogs, crabs, turtles & water snakes in small lakes, land turtles, hedgehogs, snakes, various types & colours of lizards, ferrets, weasels. Various birds, such as sparrows, swallows, magpies, robins, seagulls, hawks, quails, pheasants and many many others. At night you may see bats, owls and other night animals, crickets, who sing throughout the night. The most magical time of year is right after the dawn from April till mid June, when thousands of fireflies fly around the farm, making it an unforgettable picture.
The farm’s flora is also rich in variety especially when it comes to the wild flowers. The main attraction is the wild orchards. We have noticed at least 12 wild orchards from March till June.
Organic produce
As it normally happens in Corfu, most of the farm hosts hundreds of mature olive trees (the traditional thin olives of Corfu) but also some younger varieties that produce spicy thick olive oil. Most of the old olives have been pruned to be refreshed and produce a more aromatic & thinner oil. We produce various types of table oil from various large & small olive producing trees.
In the last 3 years we have planted many fruit trees including grape vines. They have now started producing some fruit, enough for us to make jams, traditional fruit desserts, but also red & white wine.
In the winter we produce various grains that we use mainly for animal feed, such as corn. We produce two types of corn, one being an ideal for making corn-bread and another which is ideal for bird feeding.
We have a wide range of trees in the farm, from them we produce olives, apples, prunes, cherries, nectarines, peaches, apricots, hazelnuts, walnuts, almonds, morello, berries, quinces, figs, strawberries, grapes and many many others.
The vegetables we grow vary from marrow, beans, chick-peas, peas, tomatoes, cucumber, aubergines, peppers, potatoes, corn, artichokes, lettuce, broccoli, garlic, onions and many others. We also produce watermelons & melons. Our land produces wild greens that we use widely in traditional Greek cooking.
